Crossed Wires: Blaming Artifacts for Bad Outcomes

چکیده
Philosophers and psychologists often assume that responsibility blame only apply to certain agents. But do our ordinary concepts of reflect these assumptions? I investigate one recent debate where assumptions have been applied—the back-and-forth over how explain the impact norms on causal attributions. prominent case it has found matter for attributions, but is claimed not because involves artifacts. Across six studies (total N=1,492) more carefully investigating Hitchcock Knobe’s (2009) Machine Case, find same norm effect attributions with participants tending ascribe both a norm-violating artifact. Further, evidence suggests so they are using terms in broadly normative, distinctively moral, way.

Getting Your Wires Crossed
Things should be as simple as possiblèand no simpler', so they say. This paper is about simplifying a construct in Ruby, to reduce the complexity of the algebra without sacriicing expressive power. Ruby, for which Mary Sheeran is largely responsible, is a language of relations and a collection of rules { equalities { for algebraic transformation of expressions in that language. The presentation...
متن کاملCellular Automata Get Their Wires Crossed
In three spatial dimensions, communication channels are free to pass over or under each other so as to cross without intersecting; in two dimensions, assuming channels of strictly positive thickness, this is not the case. It is natural, then, to ask whether one can, in a suitable, twodimensional model, cross two channels in such a way that each successfully conveys its data, in particular witho...

Previews make a change in direction. While L1 mutant mice had Neuropilin Interactions the pyramids, the mechanisms underlying this defect were not well understood. L1 is expressed by axons of the CST, suggesting that axonal L1 might recognize guidance cues in the region of crossing. L1 participates The function of the nervous system relies on the complex in both homophilic and heterophilic inte...
متن کاملCrossed Kirschner’s wires for the treatment of anterior flail chest: an extracortical rib fixation
Objective: Thoracic trauma may be a life-threatening condition. Flail chest is a severe chest injury with high mortality rates. Surgery is not frequently performed and, in Literature, data are controversial. The authors report their experience in the treatment of flail chest by an extracortical internal-external stabilization technique with Kirshner’s wires (K-wires). <...
متن کاملInfantile Mandibular Fracture Treatment with Double-crossed Skeletal and Circummandibular Wires: A Case Report
Abstract The prevalence of mandibular fracture is relatively lower in the pediatric population compared to adults. The treatment of these fractures is more challenging for oral and maxillofacial surgeons due to the concerns regarding mandible growth and the presence of developing tooth buds. According to the literature, conventional methods (e.g., soft diets or closed red...
